Hi! I'm Inie(like my friends call me) and I'm Portuguese..I always dreamt live in USA...NY!

But my parents don't have money now...so..I was thinkin' in this..:

    - Go abroad with AFS

    - Live in a state for 1 year..and a new high school

-When I will come back home..I'll have a conversation with my parents..'cause I wanna keep living in USA..

    - I can go for another AFS experience or my parents start a life in USA..for the first time..( i think that's very difficult..but I'll try it.)

    - Lucky me..because when I'll go to USA..my sister will change of school...so..She can go for an Middle School in USA..and my parents will have many money. cause with my parents courses (college) they can look for a job (great job with a good salary)...

This is complicated..but ..anyone can help me?

Hi, I certainly don't mean to crush any of your dreams, but have you ever set foot in the USA? I live in NY, and its a perfectly fine place, but it amy be a little premature to start planning on living here if you've never even made a visit. I would definitly encourage you to try for a year in the USA with AFS. Maybe that will encourage you to pusue your dreams, or to show you that Portugal is the place you want to stay.

As cold as what I have said sounds, I assure you we share some commonalities. I will be going to Russia for the year with AFS, and even though I have never been there I've already looked at universities. :)

Feel free to ask me questions, I would be happy to help you. I am also on facebook => ????? ????? (Megan Kupka).

Heya, I'm also going to Russia and I currently live in California. I have been to New York, and it is beautiful and I am looking into going to college there. However, I definitely agree with Megan that you should try visiting or studying abroad here. Maybe you'll love it, maybe you'll hate it. I think in some ways, the US and Europe are very similar (people are just people no matter where you go). But in other ways the culture, specifically in big cities like LA and NYC, can be fast paced and unforgiving (trust me, I live in LA). Like Megan, that is certainly not meant to stop you. Just keep it in mind. On another note, I think it's great that you are looking into studying abroad. Wherever you end up, whether that be in some tiny middle-of-nowhere town or a big city, I think that you can have a great experience if you decide to. Remember that even if you do go to the US, it is unlikely that you will end up in NY (or California for that matter). And keep an open mind, also, especially if you need financial aid. I wanted to go to Spain for years, and it ended up that I'm going to Russia (who would have thought it?). Good luck!
