    Hey everyone,

What did you guys bring for school supplies? Did you bring a lot from home or did you buy them in the host country? And also, what about uniforms? If your school requires a certain uniform, are you supposed to buy it when you get there or before you leave? Thanks!

    Azure, India YP 10-11 (hopefully)

Hi, My name's Bettina and I am (hopefully!!) planning on going to probably Russia next year. While I do know that most Russian schools do not require uniforms, I know that if the school you attend does have uniforms, you are required to buy them on your own. Which sucks, ya, but whatev, right? Also, I don't know the details on supplies, but I am almost positive that you must get them yourself if you have to have them for school. However, I don't know a huge amount about India so I can't even say that Indian schools require students to buy their own supplies, haha. If and when you get your country info packet, I am sure you'll get more information on the little details like that. Also, I have to ask, why India? And is it still a hopefully? I'm on the "hopefully" part right now too and I want to go for the same year as you. What year would that be for you, btw? I know I must have driven my family half crazy with my constant talk about maybe, hopefully going aboad... So it'd be great to talk to someone else.... Haha, anyways. Hope my answer helps a little!

Hey Bettina! haha yea you're probably right, everything should be in the info packet they send. I think I'll end up bringing a few supplies just incase so I'm not stuck without any. Wow, Russia! That's awesome! Well I sent my full application and it should be going to India this coming week...So I hope I'll be in after that! I'm planning on going this coming year for senior year..I picked India cause it's awesome! haha but really i've been studying the culture for about 3 years now, learning bits of the languages, buying tons of music and movies etc., and now i really want to go there! why did you pick Russia? I know i'm pretty crazy too i want to talk about it all the time but no one else does!! lol

Oh my gosh, I know what you guys mean.... I feel like my friends might be getting a tad bit annoyed with the fact that all I think about right now is going abroad. I applied for France for 2010-2011 year, and AFS told me that they sent my application to somewhere else for further reviewing, but I still don't know if this means I've gotten in or not.... I'm so anxious. Do you guys know if there is a certain time when people get notified of their acceptance or if it's different for each person depending on when they send in their application? Anyhow, India and Russia sound really awesome. You're really brave for choosing such unique countries. Oh, right this was supposed to be about school supplies... well from what I've read people buy their school supplies there. -Carly

Lol tell me about it. France is really cool, I went there a few summers ago. Good luck!! I haven't sent in my application cuz I'm waiting on a scholarship... Grr. Wow, India--whoa! That is so exotic. I dunno if I could handle the humidity, though, haha. I chose Russia because the language is supposedly super difficult and I do like a good challenge. Also, I like the history, the culture is pretty different and unknown to me so I like that. Plus, there's a scholarship to there and I can't afford to go without it.

That's awesome, though. I probably wouldn't have enough courage to go to some place like India or Russia. At least not right now.... maybe in college.

You know, I have been thinking the same thing. If I like Russia, which frankly, I probably will, I'm definitely going to consider going to college there. And, oh gosh, I started on the full application a few weeks ago, and I haven't gotten back to it in a while and... I can't remember how to get back there!! Can you help?

Don't worry, you're allowed to use internet and go out with friends :) Your host parents just might have rules about these things. But you're not allowed to visit your family during holidays because it is important to spend the holidays with your host fam, it's part of the culture experience

I don't think you can choose where you go either.

@hollybluwood I haven't gotten my host family yet!! D: Kind of terrifying. But you know what, I' just going to go with the flow. I trust AFS to place me with a good host family, so I don't really care when I get the info.Plus I heard that AFS France is very slow in placing people. I hope you guys are having an awesome time! I'm still in the states....
