While Abroad: Mom Dad??

    So when you are staying with your host family what do you call your host parents?? Mom and Dad?? Or their real name? I know one of my friends that is a student from Brazil calls his host parents mom and dad. He says it makes him feel more like a part of the family since his host brothers and sisters call their parents mom and dad.

    Huh. That's interesting. I've never heard that before. I think it depends on you and and your host family. I know that I wouldn't be comfortable calling other people "mom" and "dad".

    I called (and still call) my host parents Mama and Papa.  It felt strange for a week or two, but after a while, it was totally natural.  It probably also helped that I never call my biological parents mama or papa (they are mom and dad), so it was just the way it was.  They had two exchange students who called them by their first names and then two (including me) who called them Mama and Papa.
